Cadbury was blamed for using stereotypes concerning African people in its recent ad campaign, but at last the company has been cleared of all racism allegations. Since a new TV commercial of the brand appeared, the Advertising Standards Authority got 29 complaints that the video was referring to the abusive theme.
On close consideration the council delivered a verdict of not guilty. Though the Cadbury’s campaign, which featured Ghanaian musician Tinny and was carried out to promote Cadbury Dairy Milk, did employ stereotypes, it was not aimed at hurting the feelings of local people. The ad was not offensive at all, and so there is no reason to ban it.
