Dr Pepper Continues Its Million Dollar Tuition Giveaway Initiative

Dr Pepper will donate more than $1 million of tuition money as part of the annual Dr Pepper Million Dollar Tuition Giveaway. The soft drink fans aged 18—24 can submit videos online to explain why they deserve tuition money for a chance to win various prize levels, including one of five $100,000 grand prize scholarships.

Dr Pepper also celebrates past tuition winners throughout the college football season by featuring their faces and stories on limited-edition cans of its beverages as well as online and in a national television commercial.

Ten winners will compete during halftime of four conference championship games—the Dr Pepper ACC Championship, the Big Ten Championship, the Pac-12 Championship and SEC Championship, as well as the AT&T Cotton Bowl Classic.

Selected contest finalists will throw footballs from the five-yard line into a two-foot hole in an oversized Dr Pepper can replica. The Dr Pepper fan at each game that successfully completes the most throws in 30 seconds will win a $100,000 scholarship, with the runner-up taking a $23,000 scholarship prize. In addition to the halftime throws, more than 60 videos will be selected to receive instant $2,500 scholarships.

«Dr Pepper has made my dreams come true,» said Nikki Boon, a music student who won the grand prize at the SEC Championship in 2010. «Just one year ago, I was a hostess at a restaurant in my hometown. After winning, I was able to transfer to a school in Nashville and follow my dreams of singing country music. Since then, I’ve signed a record deal and just released my first single on iTunes.»

In addition to the video submissions, Dr Pepper will also be giving away tuition money through a number of other retail promotions as part of the Dr Pepper Million Dollar Tuition Giveaway.

Colgate-Palmolive also supports students by giving away scholarships for Hispanic-American students pursuing higher education. In celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month and in partnership with Hispanic Scholarship Fund, it presents ‘Haz La U’ (‘Make the U’), an annual scholarship initiative.

Dr Pepper also teamed with deviantART social network for a ‘How do YOU Drink Your Dr Pepper?’ contest for ‘deviants’ to submit their mural ideas on the topic. The winning artist, Rey Jawahir of Hillsborough County, FL, won a grand prize trip to Brooklyn to see his painted mural, $3,000, an iPad and deviantArt.com-related perks.
