This time, the giant offers brands a new tool to market themselves to the one billion of users by posting photos that can not only be ‘liked’ but also ‘wanted,’ ‘collected.’ The photos of products will also have a Buy link allowing users to go directly to a brand’s e-commerce site or a Facebook shop. The new effort is called ‘Collections.’
Facebook has already teamed up with Victoria’s Secret, Pottery Barn, Michael Kors, Wayfair, Neiman Marcus, Fab.com and Smith Optics to try out the new service.
The images these brands will post via ‘Collections’ tool can be found in the news feed. Users can ‘collect’ it and share with their friends. This function is very similar to Pinterest but the last still doesn’t have the ‘buy’ button. The app is a move towards the boost of the F-commerce which lacks popularity so far.
According to Mashable, the program does not deal with Facebook’s big acquisition of the year, Instagram and Facebook doesn’t get a cut of the transactions.
Additionally, Facebook has recently partnered with Microsoft, Google, and Adobe to form WebPlatform.org, a portal for information and support of HTML5, CSS, Canvas, and several other platforms. The WebPlatform.org was created as a result of partnership of the above-mentioned companies and some other players such as W3C, Hewlett-Packard, Nokia, Opera, and the Mozilla Foundation. This is a ‘bible’ for developers that collects information from all over the Internet in one place, says All Facebook.
