Glaceau Vitaminwater Encourages the British to Pretend to Be Sick

Glaceau Vitaminwater is encouraging British people to tell lies. The brand is persuading its consumers to take sick days from work when they feel well to have fun. It also gives tips on how to make the co-workers and boss believe that you are ill.

The labels on the recently launched bottle say, «If you’ve had to use sick days because you’ve actually been sick, then you’ve been missing out. The trick is to stay perky and use sick days to just, not go in. Just stick with the ever-elusive ’24-hour bug’ — no one can prove a thing.

According to AdAge’s report, the controversial packaging caused indignation among private companies, who wanted Coca-Cola GB to explain the move. The soft drink giant made a statement, saying that “Coca-Cola responded in a statement: «This is clearly a tongue-in-cheek reference, very much in keeping with the humorous tone that Glaceau Vitaminwater has adopted with consumers right from its launch … We are not seriously suggesting people should call in sick when they are not and on pack we state, ‘taking a sickie is very, very naughty.‘ «
