Google Uses Animation to Get People Voting for the Global Impact Challenge UK Finalists

Google is spreading the word about its Global Impact Challenge in the UK with the launch of a new campaign by adam&eve DDB, which shows that a simple click can make a difference. The effort is designed to attract the audience to the dedicated website, where they can vote for UK not-for-profits and their ways to revolutionize the world.

The 1-minute minimalistic spot, created in a tie-up with animation studio NoMint and production company Across the Pond, uses small bright objects put against the plain grey wall to highlight the start of a big positive transformation in the challenging settings. The spot explains how a cursor can change the world for better—Google says that there’s great potential behind it, a power to give a brighter future to young and unemployed, provide clean and safe energies for rural communities in Africa, improve the lives of thousands of older people, change the way we give small donations, and many more.

The spot directs the viewers to the site, globalimpactchallenge.withgoogle.com, where they can choose their favorite project from the pool of finalists and vote for it from May 22 through May 31. The site features 10 UK non-profits that are seeking support from Google to get the projects rolling on a broader scale. Each project also has a short description of its future impact. Users can vote for up to four projects—their selection is displayed on the right of the list of the finalists.

The finalists are providing solar lights for off-grid communities, digital “eyes and ears” for wildlife protection, micromanufacturing facilities for younger entrepreneurs, and more. All of these themes are highlighted in the major spot, plus each of the projects got its own video.

There will be four winners—one of them will be selected by public and three of them will be determined by the panel of judges that includes Sir Richard Branson and Sir Tim Berners-Lee, the inventor of the World Wide Web among others. The award recipients will get with 500,000 GBP as well as the opportunity to receive limited technical assistance from Googlers. Additionally, each of the finalists will receive a Samsung Chromebook. The winners will be announced on June 3.
