illy issimo and SVA Sponsor Urban Photography Competition

illy issimo teams up with the School of Visual Arts, New York to sponsor a photography project focused on expressing genuine city life. “AuthentiCity” is aimed at international artists, who are students or alumni of SVA requesting them to capture the elements of urban living.

With the theme “Revealing purity and authenticity in urban life”, “AuthentiCity” was presented at Milan Design Week 2010 (Salone del Mobile) from April 14 through April 19 in an open exhibit setting in the Tortona area of Milan, at the T35 @ Nhow Hotel (Via Tortona 35, Milan). The first 25 works that had already been preliminarily selected were on display.

Five finalists were selected in this stage; Carlos Alvarez Montero from Mexico, Giselle Behrens from Venezuela, and Igor Aronov, Caroline Shepard, and Matthew Baum, all from the United States. All of the finalists will receive a cash award of $3,000.

The next stage of “AuthentiCity” will be an assignment to the five finalists to further develop the theme with a deadline of September 2010. A final exhibit featuring all of their works will take place in New York next fall.

A winner, to be announced at the New York exhibition, will receive a cash prize of $10,000 and an assignment from ILKO Coffee International commissioning them to complete a new theme of original photography.
