Intel Kicks off the Global Ultrabook Project in Collaboration with will.i.am

Intel is launching its new music related global effort entitled the Ultrabook Project as part of its collaboration with will.i.am, Intel’s director of creative innovation and a member of The Black Eyed Peas. The artist, who joined the company in early 2011, is embarking on a 12-month and 12-city world tour, which will start in Mexico City in the end of January and will result in a bunch of music collaborations.

Mirroring the musician’s vision of a richer, more participatory music experience for his fans, the Ultrabook Project will put music at the epicenter of social content to create the ultimate musical expedition. Fans will be able to see what will.i.am sees and experiences, and showcases the inspiration for and creation process behind each of the pieces of music,” states Intel’s press release. As part of this creative initiative, using an Ultrabook device will.i.am will produce and perform 12 original music pieces, inspired by the locations the artist will visit while being on the tour.

The celebrated recording artist will get inspired by fashion, design and architecture trends in the select cities of Australia, Brazil, China, England, India, Korea and the U.S. he will stop in during the coming months, and will collaborate with local artists to make pieces that reflect the cities’ culture and spirit. Intel will give the audience an opportunity to listen to the music pieces on their personal audio devices—10,000 free downloads of each song will be available exclusively on intel.com.

In addition to that, the tech giant is inviting its fans to engage in the project though Timeline, the new interactive music player created by Razorfish, which allows to watch the progress of the tour, interact with each other and listen to the pieces online. So far, users can download the Japanese ‘teaser’ track. Timeline player also displays various content that relates to the song such as images that inspired the artists, videos and so on, allows users to comment within the song and send a link to the piece to their friends on Facebook and Twitter.

The band of the future includes a digital artist and code writer and this is a big step toward making that a reality,” shared will.i.am, commenting on the Ultrabook Project.
