Johanna Basford to Draw the Future on smart Car

Johanna Basford, a designer who uses black ink to create breath-taking images, is teaming up with Mercedes-owned smart to cover the whole body of the electric car in phantasmagoric drawings and put the car on display to Londoners.

However, the project entitled ‘TwitterPicture’ is much more than just creative collaboration between the automaker and the artist. This initiative puts crowd-sourcing strategy to work using the power of social media, namely Twitter.

In the beginning of May, all those willing to join the project are encouraged to send their answers to the question «What will the future look like?» on Twitter. The most interesting and appealing answers will be selected and depicted by Johanna in drawing. The live streaming will be organized on smart Facebook page on May 4 and 5. So, let’s see what the future has to offer, except robots, cyberdogs and flying backpacks…

The finished smart masterpiece will be on display at London’s Southbank until 16 May.

The latest updates on the project are available on Twitter @johannabasford as well as @smartfortwoUK and #smartpic.

«I LOVE these interactive illustrations! It’s so cool to see all your amazing (and usually pretty bizarre) suggestion tweets and to work for what is fundamentally a crowd-sourced Creative Director. I have to admit that I’m always a bit scared ahead of one of these live drawing events, but the buzz and energy of working out with the studio (where everyone can see you make mistakes!) and without any predetermined plan is pretty darn cool,» Johanna shares her feelings with the audience about the upcoming event in her blog.
