LG Calls People across the US to ‘Speak Up’ against Bullying

LG encourages the US nation to tackle bullying and help create the friendly atmosphere in communities across the country. The tech giant supports Cartoon Network’s ‘Stop Bullying: Speak Up’ campaign by launching an initiative at the sixth annual LG U.S. National Texting Championship next week on August 8. The brand will encourage people in the US to enter a simple message ‘Join LG’ and send it to 27777 during the special ‘Text for the Cause’ round. Each text pledge will bring $1 to Cartoon Network from LG (up to $50,000)—the donated money will be spend on distributing more bullying prevention toolkits for middle and high schools across the country.

As a committed corporate citizen, LG is partnering with Cartoon Network to support anti-bullying efforts and help inform teens and pre-teens about the importance of treating all people with respect. By asking our audience to take a stand against all forms of bullying, including those that are becoming more prevalent in the digital space, we hope to raise awareness for the tools and steps available to all of us to help stop bullying in its tracks,” said James Fishler, senior vice president of marketing and go-to-market operations, LG Electronics USA.

The new partnership is to help the communities stop bullying at an early stage—according to surveys, 85 percent of young people confess that they would report bullying if they had right tools and knew whom they could tell about the case. The new toolkits are helpful for both students and teachers—is is based on three major principles: telling an adult about the incident, supporting the victim, and getting involved into the anti-bullying activities.

The new effort continues the initiative started by the brand in 2010—then, LG launched the LG Text Education Campaign, providing parents with tips and know-how resources to prevent mobile phone misuse among children.
