Louis Vuitton Presents the Art of Travel Book

To expand its image of a luxury brand for travelers, Louis Vuitton in collaboration with Editions Xavier Barral will publish an original travel book, which will guide readers through the world’s twenty-one stopovers with 1,000 hotel labels from the collection composed by Gaston-Louis Vuitton, grandson of Louis Vuitton.

Gaston-Louis was not only a successor of the trunk-making business of his grandfather but a devoted traveler and collector of small hotel labels. His collection of 3,000 hotel labels is set to inspire those passionate about the road.

The posters include the stickers from countries varying from Paris to Tokyo and some of the earliest date back to the times of steamships of the first half of the 20th century. Viewers have the chance to see the most original and exotic labels from eastern countries to sophisticated and bold ones from the west. Over 1,000 labels from the collection are presented here for the first time, says Iloelv.

Francisca Mattéoli, a famous traveller and writer has contributed to the project and wrote stories about  the legendary hotels and palaces such as the Hôtel Plaza Athénée in Paris and the Raffles Hotel in Singapore. In this places established artists, intellectuals, travel-writers and politicians of the early 20th century gathered and this fact makes them worth seeing. The Art of Travel book is illustrated with visuals from the times it describes.

The book is available starting this month in Louis Vuitton stores in a limited edition boxed set accompanied by a map of the world and a notebook with 11 self-adhesive hotel labels. The brand has also recently unveiled its new jewelry collection dedicated to Paris and a capsule apparel collection by Yayoi Kusama.
