McDonald’s Fryfootball mini series celebrates the best in the 2014 World Cup matches

McDonald’s recreates the best moments of the ongoing World Cup tournament just in case you’ve missed the matches or want to revive key points of the games. The fast food giant, which is one of the major sponsors of the event, has launched a series of super short animated spots that feature golden french fries, the brand’s signature product, that comes as football players on the pitch.

The spot re-enacts the most capturing moments of the games, letting viewers to look at them form a fresh, “deep-fried” point of view. To make the french fries sticks took like footballers, the creative team behind the project provided them with little eyes and mouths (and hands for goalkeepers and referees), but there’re no jerseys, so it’s quite hard to tell which fry is playing for which team. Still, if users know the match generally, they will easily recognize the players thanks to a bunch of references.

The videos, which are created overnight, come as part of McDonald’s broader campaign, GOL, that invites consumer to enjoy the tournament atmosphere in a nice “gaming” way. The fast food giant is encouraging the audience to play a set of specially crafted games—to win free food or a trip to the World Cup finals or get inside the augmented reality using their smartphones as a tool and one of 12 special on-pack World Cup-inspired designs as the gates to this world.
