Nike Football Makes Your Favourite Football Players Closer on FB

Do you want insider access to all your favorite footballers? Nike now offers football fans “insider” status on Facebook allowing them a glimpse into the lives of the best football players in the world.

This huge marketing campaign for Nike on Facebook is coupled with the recently unveiled “Write the Future” television advertising campaign. All is done in anticipation of the FIFA World Cup next month.

The commercials star famous football players like Cristiano Ronaldo and Didier Drogba. The ads also feature globally known athletes such as Kobe Bryant of the NBA and Roger Federer, the top tennis player in the world. The 3-minute film went line on TV for the first time on Sunday, May 22nd, during the European Club Final.On the morning before the commercial originally ran on Facebook, over 100,000 fans had registered to view. Now over 600,000 fans on Facebook have registered for the Nike Football page.

“What we really are focusing on are those moments when someone has the opportunity to write their own future by playing more creatively, by playing more brilliantly,» Trevor Edwards, vp, global brand and category management at Nike, said. «Everything we’re doing is really about that young football player who wants to connect with their heroes.»

Nike will be using Facebook as well as other popular internet sites such as YouTube and QQ in China to establish themselves as the official sponsor of the World Cup.

As a part of the Nike Football campaign, a special online competition was launched on Facebook to reward those young athletes and football lovers, who will upload their own «sport-inspired» videos on the fan page. The winner will have an opportunity to go on a 2-week trip to South Africa and a chance to visit a Nike Academy football training camp.
