Nike Has Unveiled Its Greenest Boot Ever and Created an Olympics-themed Installation

Nike GS is a new football boot introduced by the leading sportswear company in London yesterday. The shoe distinguishes from other similar Nike’s creations—it is the lightest, fastest, and most environmentally-friendly boot the company has ever produced.

The lightweight, just160 gramsfor a size 9, boot is made out of renewable and recycled materials. The Nike GS was designed in Italy. Its bio-based traction plate is made primarily from castor beans, a material that guarantees flexibility and strength. The boot laces, lining and tongue are made from a minimum of 70% recycled materials. Anatomically positioned studs allow athletes to maximize speed but stay assured on pitch, while a synthetic supports lockdown on midfoot and arch area.

Recently, the company has introduced Nike+ Training, a program for amateur athletes that uses training shoes with integrated technology based on the Nike+ Pressure Sensor.

“The Nike GS is the lightest and fastest football boot we’ve ever made and really defines a new era in how we create, design and produce elite football boots,” said Andy Caine, global design director for Nike Football. “When you can deliver a boot that combines high end performance and a low environmental footprint that’s a winning proposition for players and planet.”

Nike GS will be available at  Nike.com and selected online retailers from August 15 at  $300.

Nike has also has built up an Olympic-times CampVictoryinstallation in Eugene, Ore, the company’s hometown. The installation that was on site during the 10 days of Olympic running trials was showcasing current and future Nike products in an interactive way, says Fast Co.Design.

There was a 100-meter Speed Tunnel featuring a15-foot-tall LED wall with a visualization of the fastest runs from the Olympic trials, head-to-head treadmill challenges, and 3D heat maps of local Oregon running terrain.
