Porsche Became Enraged over Nissan’s Anti-German Campaign

Nissan has launched a new guerilla activity revolving around the World Cup victories and auto-manufacturers’ fails. In the new campaign the Japanese brand is attacking its rivals on the sport-car market, Audi, BMW and Porsche with a range of billboards featuring a very unpleasant image (for these brands) with quite offensive straplines.

The automobile manufacturer has created a series of prints with provocative statements including «The Germans Came Off Wurst,” “How to beat the Germans,» «Kaisers Chiefed,» «The Winner Hans Down«, aiming to convince the consumers that the German car brands are not that perfect as they seem to be. The billboards featured some of its models ‘decorated’ with logos of its main rivals along with a crossed five bar gate next to each of them to demonstrate how many times Nissan won got over sport cars of these brands during the races in Nürburgring, Germany.

The new also appeared at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, which took place this weekend and, as usual, featured motor racing vehicles. Guardian.co.uk reports that the promotional move caused an uproar among Porsche UK executives, and they asked Nissan to remove the company’s logo from the ad. «The problem arose with them using our Porsche crests. They are our property and we do not give permission to any company to use our crests without our permission. This applies to any company,» commented Andrea Baker, head of public relations at Porsche.

The complaint even may be taken to the advertising authorities, if Porsche doesn’t settle its nerves and decides to punish the brand, which was bold enough to tease the European giants. As for now, Nissan has taken Porsche logo away and wrote the name of the brand in letters instead. The German automotive manufacturer seems to have done something wrong in its life, as less than a month ago it became a victim of another promotional prank—MINI challenged Porsche to have a race of all times together. The giant asked the ‘competitor’ to cool down, but the tiny car didn’t follow this advice and arranged the ridiculous race on its own (it took place on Road Atlanta on June 21). ‘David’ of the auto market came to the finish line just 2 seconds later than ‘Goliath’.
