PUMA Presents 7 Films under the ‘Peace Starts with Me’ Theme

PUMA, the brand well-known for combining social activity and filmmaking, is presenting films, created for the World Peace Festival 2011 in Berlin (August 20-27). The seven videos shot by international filmmakers, both celebrated and emerging, are revolving around the same idea—‘peace starts with me’ and were created under the PUMA.Peace program, launched by the brand to promote nonviolent attitudes across the globe.

The short films were developed under the guidance of Mark Coetzee, PUMA.Creative Chief Curator and produced by Shooting People and represent various styles and creative approaches, ranging from 35mm live action to experimental animation. The filmmakers were asked to create videos, which would contribute to the peace movement across the world, inspiring the audience with their bespoke atmosphere and positive message. PUMA also asked the creators to make the pieces available to be screened, downloaded and watched for free, without any additional fees.

The list of seven films includes pieces by young experimental filmmaker and animator Magali Charrier, award-winning creator of image works Max Hattler, young filmmakers Tom Gran and Kayleigh Gibbons, who already have one of their work screened at a big festival, master of audiovisual work, performance and experimental animation Noriko Okaku, filmmakers with an impressive portfolio Christine Molloy and Joe Lawlor, Amsterdam-based artist Jacco Olivier, whose works have been exhibited starting 2003, and Bill Porter, who also has a number of his pieces displayed worldwide. To learn more about the filmmakers, read the description to the videos on YouTube—all the pieces can be found below the article as well.

The goal of our PUMA.Peace initiative is to create programs that foster a more peaceful world than the one we live in today. Each of us can make a difference in this world as individuals, as corporations and through strategic partnerships. Moreover, at PUMA we feel that we are uniquely positioned to contribute to making the world a better place for generations to come,” said Jochen Zeitz, CEO of the Sport & Lifestyle Group, PPR, Paris, France.
