Samsung and James Franco Introduce Galaxy Note 10.1 in the U.S.

Samsung has partnered with actor and producer James Franco to create a new online film for the Galaxy Note 10.1, which hit the U.S. market last week.

Cheil USA CCO wrote a script for Franco, who directed the film and also stars in it demonstrating how easily he copes with tasks using the new tablet. Franco introduces himself saying that he’s best known as a film actor and producer, he’s also starred in a soap opera (General Hospital), written a book of short stories, and simultaneously attended grad school at two New York universities. Adding that he is the ultimate multi-tasker, he cooks an egg and in the same time does a lot of other things—diagnoses a soar throat, solves a complex mathematical equation, sends himself a multimedia birthday gift reminder and other things.

«We only had one shooting day with him,» said explains Cheil USA CCO Lars Bastholm to Creativity Online . «So we had to be very well prepared. Any day-of glitches could have thrown a spanner in the works and forced us to postpone. Luckily, the tiger, skateboarders and pillow-fighting girls were all very well behaved and performed great that day. And, you know, the benefit of working with someone like James Franco is that his acting skills aren’t too shabby!»

In addition to the video, Samsung held a launch event for consumers, held at New York’s Jazz at Lincoln Center last week. The star-studded event featured Filmmaker Baz Luhrmann and fashion designer Zac Posen who tried out a demo of the tablet. Creatives could visit various ‘experience zones’ that showed off the tablet’s diverse capabilities for the creative set.

The video is the first but not the last. In the coming months, Samsung and Cheil will roll out other celebrity-driven web videos but who will star in them is a secret yet.

Last month Samsung and David Beckham presented the new Galaxy S III smartphone.
