Samsung Shares Domestic Tips Online

The idea of promoting products through a series of reality-TV episodes was recently employed by Philips and became the basis of its romantic online-only comedy videos to preview a series of new range. The concept is now taken up by another global company, Samsung, which has launched a website called SmartnSimple.tv to spread the word about its domestic appliances and offer internet-savvy UK consumers lots of ‘smart and simple’ tips on how to turn daily routine into enjoyable experience.

To date, the online destination features four 5-minute episodes, which are hosted by actress Ginnie Watson, who visits different British homes with various household dilemmas. She finds the best fitting solution to the problems (ranging from having no time for vacation to having no place to put away clean laundry to), and with a team of professionals, introduces positive changes into the life of these families. In the end of each spot, she and a bit depressed man describe the characteristics of one Samsung’s product.

Visitors to the website are also encouraged to share they own household tips. The video with the most views will be named the tip of the month, and win the Samsung robotic vacuum cleaner, the NaviBot. The spots are also hosted on Dailymotion.com and the project’s Facebook page.

We wanted to create an innovative multi-channel experience that bridged the gap between what brands can typically offer people, and which we could also use as a means of communicating information about our range of home appliances,” commented Andrew Jones, Samsung’s marketing manager.
