Dell and Wallmart Sponsor Second Annual International e-Waste Design Competition

The Second Annual International e-Waste Design Competition has been announced. This year the event initiators call for those who care about the future of our planet, to present their designer solutions on reducing the e-waste—total amount of used computers, laptops, mobile phones and printers that grows each year as people buy new models and get rid of the outdated ones.

This year’s competition is sponsored by Dell and Walmart.

The task of the participants will be to present solutions that will help remediate the existing e-waste problem and prevent generation of this type of waste in the future. There jury welcome submissions in two categories: ‘e-Waste Re-use’ and ‘e-Waste Prevention’. Anyone with the college degree or currently studying in a college and aged over 18, may participate.

The Jury will award one finalist from each of the two categories a Platinum Award of 5,000 USD, a Gold Award of 3,000 USD, and a Silver Award of 1,000 USD. The online registration is open until April 1, while the names of winners will be announced on April 15. The date and place for award ceremony is still to be announced.

By launching the Second Annual International e-Waste Design Competition, the initiators aim to establish a basis for environmentally responsible electronic design practices and popularize the idea of re-use of the electronic equipment.
