Starbucks, with help of Apple, continues to improve and extend its iTunes Pick of the Week program. Now it will include iPhone applications, extended samples of books from the iBookstore, TV episodes and other media types.
The expanded Pick of the Week program kicks off today with the premium music-identifying Shazam Encore application launch. The following week, Starbucks stores will feature EA and Firemint’s SPY mouse game.
Beginning from today and continuing each following week, Starbucks customers will notice new Pick of the Week cards available for a complimentary iTunes store entertainment offering. Cards are to be purchased in limited supply at nearly 8,500 Starbucks operated stores and licensed stores, says Mashable.
“With the explosion of app downloads and digital versions of books—the kinds of content that we already love to curate and help our customers discover through Starbucks Digital Network—this is a great time to expand an already successful program,” said Adam Brotman, vice president of digital ventures at Starbucks.
“We’re excited about the expansion of this program because there are so many different ways that we can enhance our customers experience through content,” he added. “The expansion of this program is a signal of things to come in how we plan to innovate by engaging with customers through content.”
According to Brotman, Apple and Starbucks are working together closely on the initiative; they’ll be jointly selecting each week’s application or media offering. Financial terms of the relationship among Starbucks and Apple are not disclosed.
Starbucks launched its app for iPhone in July. The app introduced its popular Starbucks Card eGift feature on a mobile device for the first time.
Starbucks will continue to refresh its weekly iTunes music offering online via Starbucks Digital Network.
The company has recently re-designed its online store.
