Target Has Already Rolled out Its Christmas Marketing Campaign

Target is the first major player that has already rolled out its first Christmas holiday ad. Target’s ad began airing last week, while usually retailers launch the holiday ads in the beginning of November.

The spot created by 72andSunny features an oversized version of Target mascot Bullseye walking through snow-covered streets with a shopping bag in his mouth. The chorus sings ‘Are You Ready?’ A voice-over says, «The holidays are coming and they’re gonna be big.» ‘Dream Big. Save Bigger’ slogan crowns the commercial.

Ad Age says that Target’s executives unveiled at a yesterday’s media event plans for aggressive promotional pricing, a heavy rotation of holiday ads in October and November and the ‘shop with confidence’ tactics.

«Guests are feeling better about finances and are more comfortable considering larger purchases,» said Target CEO Gregg Steinhafel. «We will be highly promotional and intensely competitive on price, delivering the exceptional value consumers want. … I believe this is an outstanding fourth quarter strategy, all about providing the right merchandise and deals at the right time for consumers throughout the season.»

After Halloween, Target will begin promoting the holiday more aggressively with a series of ads sharing the idea of gift inspiration and on getting the best deal. The retailer will also focus on ‘shoppable media’ with consumers able to purchase items seen in broadcast spots.

This year’s commercial already received feedback from social media users, mostly negative. Consumers said that it’s too early for Christmas ads and that “the TV ad was just ridiculous.”

Target answered the commenters with the message: «We’re sorry to hear about your disappointment. We’ve shared your feedback with our Broadcast Media executives for review.»
