An encounter between prestigious Martell cognac and Jean Nouvel, one of the world’s most famous modern architects, has given rise to The Martell Amber Lamp: a polysemic work created as a tribute to the virtuosity of Martell cognac. This luminous sculpture consists of an imposing glass bulb with a tall metal staff; its striking architecture glows with life and captivates with sleek, poetic charm.

Jean Nouvel has expressed his full talent in creating not so much a lamp, but a light (an amber light) that emits endless luminous pulses in shimmering golden and copper waves. The waves modulate the space by creating a warm, calm atmosphere for reflection, for the pleasure of tasting, a refined art of living or the enjoyment of a shared experience.

The Martell Amber Lamp can represent the amber purity of a glass of Martell and its crescendo of rising aromas, warm, full and generous, a precious silken drop of cognac emerging from the still, a fire around which to gather, or even Martell’s global reach. It is a tribute to beauty, tasted with the eyes.
In the past, Martell’s bottles and glasses have been designed as authentic works of art by such celebrated designers as glass sculptor Serge Mansau, architect Paul Andreu and interior designer Andrée Putman. Martell is also involved in the international cultural scene, supporting talented artists the world over, and such prestigious exhibitions as ‘Martell Artists of the Year’ and ‘Art for the World’, one of the biggest art projects of Shanghai’s Expo 2010. It is also supported the restoration of the Grand Couvert Antechamber, which just reopened to the public, in the Château de Versailles, of which Martell is a patron.

50 Martell Amber Lamps will be produced and exposed in prestigious outlets across the globe, art galleries, museums, etc, and at Martell’s Château de Chanteloup in Cognac. The French-manufactured glass bulb is 400mm round and 520mm high. The metal staff contains the electrics; it can be adjusted to a length between 75cm and 3,3m.
