UNICEF, Threadless and BBH New York Present a Collection of GOOD SHIRTS to Help People of the Horn of Africa

Clothing may be a way to make a bold fashion statement or express your inner world, but sometimes it turn to be a great thing that helps us support a social cause. Threadless, BBH New York and the U.S. Fund for UNICEF have teamed up to launch GOOD SHIRTS, a new collection of T-shirts created to contribute to support relief efforts in the Horn of Africa, the region that is now suffering greatly from famine and drought. All the proceeds from the sale of the range, what went on sale on October 25, will be donated to the U.S. Fund for UNICEF and will be used to bring hope to the people of the deprived areas.

Now, there is the worst drought in 60 years in Somalia, Kenya, Ethiopia and Djibouti, which led to famine in six regions of southern Somalia, and local people do need help from the world. The new collection is not a big contribution, but still it can help some people survive in the tough situation. The range designed by New York City art collective Christine & Justin Gignac was created with a smart twist—the cost of each T-shirt corresponds to the price of an item depicted on it. For example, the cheapest tee is the one featuring a mosquito costs $18.57, and this is the money needed to buy three insecticide treated mosquito nets, and the priciest one is a T-shirt with a 125cc motorbike ($3064.82). To see all the designs, including measles vaccines ($24.30), high energy biscuits ($49.96), a community water pump ($500) and an emergency tent ($1,939.96) to name a few, go to www.threadless.com.

We believe people are generally altruistic, but giving people a badge for being altruistic certainly doesn’t hurt. We’re literally letting people wear their donation as a source of pride and as a means to spread the word. If friends get a little competitive over who’s being more altruistic, all the better,” commented Ari Weiss, Executive Creative Director at BBH NY.
