One of the major US food retailers Whole Foods Market, specializing in selling fresh and organic foods, has announced the start of ‘Do Something Reel’ film festival presenting the movies that showcase the most appealing issues modern-day Americans have been dealing with.
The 6 thought-provoking and character-driven documentaries unveiled at the festival tell the stories of people that are striving to make the change and tackle issues like environmental protection, food choices and the impact they have upon environment as well as upon human health. These are the stories of people from different states and different professional background, including farmers and scientists, chefs and housekeepers.
The Whole Foods Market Do Something Reel movie festival was launched on April 1 and is traveling to 70 cities across the United States in celebration of the Earth Month. The events of the festival take place in movie theatres located not far from the Whole Foods Market stores.
This event was initiated with the aim to bring the attention of the modern day Americans to the issues that actually require their attention, encourage people to take action and ‘do something reel’. Another goal of the festival is to support the creators of ‘green films’. As independent film-makers, who are not sponsored by any large corporation, they are lacking the financial support, which is vital for their work.
Walter Robb, co-CEO of Whole Foods Market, said, «Through our Whole Foods Market Do Something Reel Film Festival we want to raise awareness of environmental and food issues, and support filmmakers who are creating films that inspire people to question the impact our choices have on our health, body and environment. We see film as an inspirational medium that can spark an active dialogue and encourage people to take action locally.»
