2011 Youtube Symphony Orchestra: Bridging Art and Technology

The-long awaited finale of 2011 Youtube Symphony Orchestra took place yesterday, Sunday, March 20. As announced, the offline concert of the orchestra symbolizing the unity of people from all over the world through music, was held in Sydney Opera House and live-streamed on youtube.com/symphony.

The winners of this year’s YouTube Symphony Orchestra 2011—101 professional and amateur musician from 33 countries of the world—spent a week in Sydney participating in a number of key events of YouTube Symphony Orchestra 2011 festival that included musical collaboration between orchestra members and world-class mentors, outdoor performances, local experiences, ensemble concerts, etc.

During the  final concert on March 20, the Youtube Orchestra was playing a number of iconic musical pieces by the composers of different epochs. This fantastic power of music literally lit up the night as the iconic sails of Sydney Opera House served as a background for animated visuals on the interior and exterior projections that were synchronised to the music of the YouTube Symphony Orchestra 2011’s performance. The projections were powered by Obscura Digital.

As far as online event is concerned, the streamline was accompanied by Tweet feed that allowed for viewers from around the world to connect and share their feelings.
