Heineken Celebrates Christmas with a Set of New Facebook Apps

On the heels of the announcement of Facebook and HEINEKEN’s tie up, the flagship beer of the company revealed two festive applications on its fan page in the biggest social media platform (though, the major deal starts on January 1, 2012). The apps, ‘BeerFriender’ and ‘The Heineken Social Christmas Tree’ help people celebrate the winter holiday in a true social way like never before.

The first app, ‘BeerFriender,’ allows users to share BeerTenders with people on Facebook. The idea is simple: buying things for yourself is not in a holiday spirit so the beer brand encourages users to match up with someone else on Facebook who also wants to have a BeerTender—you just exchange the same gift (a BeerTender), nicely wrapped and with a card. Here, Heineken doesn’t present you anything, it just assists you in making the purchase on a page powered by Amazon.com in the way which turns a simple purchase into a gift.

Using the other application, one helps build an offline Christmas tree in Singapore, which will be on display from December 17 through December 26. The giant tree, over 11 meters high, will be decorated with 48 huge LCD screens, on which your messages, photos and friends will appear, making virtual social connections visible in the real world—the idea was developed by Iris Worldwide. “Set to become Heineken’s first festive landmark powered by social media, the Heineken Social Christmas Tree is a stunning display of festive greetings exchanged among friends on Facebook. Connect with your friends and family and send them one if the most memorable festive greeting they will ever receive,” says the brand.

Last year, ahead of Christmas, Heineken revealed the hilarious ‘The Entrance’ spot, which launched the brand’s new ‘Open Your World’ international campaign.
