Net-a-Porter Uses Augmented Reality to Unveil a New Collection by Karl Lagerfeld

Yesterday, Net-a-Porter, an online luxury retailer launched a new collection designed by Chanel creative director Karl Lagerfeld that was announced at Le Web in Paris in the end of the last year. Five augmented reality-enhanced shopping events across the globe took place at window locations in Paris, New York, London, Berlin and Sydney.

Visitors gathered there for a chance to get some free items from the collection and to experience the spectacle. A special augmented reality app was created for shoppers to use with their iPhones or iPads. They scanned product images from a storefront to shop and could win those products. Prices of the pret-a-porter collection range from $95 to $450.

Net-a-Porter also gave away leather gloves and collars from the collection to the first 50 visitors, and handed out free t-shirts and goodie bags to those who come later.

Net-a-Porter, which retails exclusively online used the ‘Window Shop’ that debuted in September 2011 as part of Fashion’s Night Out initiative in London and New York. The move allowed the online company creating offline buzz.

People who were unable to attend one of the five events could still play a game in the app for a chance to win a £1000 pound shopping coupon to Net-a-Porter.
