Tuborg Julebryg: Happy New Beer!

The blue and white advertisement is a long-standing winter tradition for Tuborg. The idea of giving the cans and bottles these two colors originated from a famous animated beer commercial with Santa Claus in blue clothing, which was launched in 1980 and had a great success. The TV-ad turned to be so extremely  popular that for Christmas 1981 the company devised the special Tuborg Julebryg (Tuborg Christmas Brew), a bottom-fermented, wiener beer brewed on lager, münchener and caramel malt with tasty English liquorice. It is a seasonal beer, which is present on the market for only 6 weeks every year and proves to be one of the best selling beers of the brand.

The campaign traditionally launches on “J-day”, the first Friday of November. In Denmark this long anticipated day has almost a nation holiday status, as since morning Carlsberg employees drive from one bar and café to another and give out dark-golden free beer with a fresh aroma of caramel, grain, liquorice and blackcurrant to everyone older than 21. Christmas and the New Year are coming, so it’s high time to celebrate!
