Fairtrade Foundation Announced Fairtrade Fortnight. Major European Food Brands are In

UK-based Fairtrade Foundation announced it would be running Fairtrade Fortnight between 28 February and 13 March. Fairtrade Fortnight is the annual event organized by the Foundation in an effort to promote all kinds of assistance it provides to people in developing countries. This year’s event is dedicated to cotton industry and millions of cotton growers.

In course of the event, everyone in the UK is welcome to join the initiative and spread the word about Fairtrade ideas by showing off the Fairtrade Foundation label, «getting loud and proud» of the movement. This initiative was immediately supported by such big brands as Nestle, Cadbury, Starbucks, Marks & Spencer, Sainsbury’s, Tesco and Waitrose, www.brandrepublic.com reports, who will disclose their activities in the coming weeks.

Cadbury’s, one of the biggest UK-based confectionery brands, announced it would donate fifth of its profits from sales of Fairtrade-branded Cadbury Dairy Milk products on funding solar energy projects for the farmers in Ghana. During this two-week period, the brand will be running a marketing campaign designed to increase awareness of Fairtrade ideas. The activity will include digital and PR actions as well as in-store point of sale materials enouraging customers to buy Fairtrade Cadbury products and thus, help provide affordable electricity for Ghanaian farmers.

Cadbury Dairy Milk’s commitment to Fairtrade is part of the Cadbury Cocoa Partnership pledge to spend £45 million during ten years to support the sustainable development of cocoa farming industry in India, Ghana, South East Asia and the Caribbean.

Facebook is chosen as the N1 promotional platform for the event. During the Fairtrade Fortnight it will hold a number of contests on the fan page of the Fairtrade Foundation. For more information about the ideas, events and vacancies of the Foundation, please visit www.fairtrade.org.uk.
