Pepsi Japan is adding Pepsi Baobab to the portfolio of its weird flavours including Pepsi Ice Cucumber, Pepsi Blue Hawaii, Pepsi Shiso (green perilla) and Pepsi Azuki. The bottles design (and the product itself) is obviously dedicated to the upcoming World Cup as it features a huge Baobab tree’s silhouette put against a red and yellow African sunset.
The Japanese launch of «refreshingly spicy» soft drink is slated for on May 25. The 500 ml bottle will cost 140 yen (about $1.50) per 500ml bottle. In Africa the Baobab fruit (which is sometimes called «monkey bread») is grounded and then mixed with water to make a refreshing drink, and this inspired the Pepsi laboratory to develop a new soda with this exotic taste.
The Baobab fruit with a spicy flavor contains more vitamin C than oranges and more calcium than milk.
