Samsung engages with «Gen Z» through a filmmaking contest

Samsung Australia teams up with celebrated director Baz Lurman (Australia, The Great Gatsby) and the National Institute of Dramatic Art (NIDA) to spur filmmaking creativity among young talented minds. The brand is calling people aged 17-24 to join The Shoot for a chance to make a short film that will premiere at the Sydney Opera House during its 40th anniversary celebrations in late October. To develop the film, the creative team of the winners will be working cheek by jowl with professionals including Mr. Lurman and will be using a toolkit that will include the new GALAXY Note 3 and GALAXY Gear.

The competition is detailed on The Shoot microsite. The destination highlights the basic info about the opportunity, experience, technology, studio, and premiere. Samsung invites young creatives to enter through one of the six categories presented on the site—movie makers, actors, writers, directors, designers, and cinematographers. Each of the entrants is invited to upload a 60-second statement to camera, explaining why they should be selected as part of The Shoot creative team. To improve the entry, participants are invited to submit an optional project that vary depending on the field of expertise—an 8-image story presentation or a ½ page story summary for directors, 1-minute video presentation of their big idea for movie makers, etc.

All the entries are to be submitted by September 20. The 10 winners, selected by the jury, will be invited to join the filmmaking team and will take part in creating a short movie that will be first screened at the legendary Sydney Opera House. The once-in-a-lifetime experience will include a six-day intensive filmmaking course at NIDA from September 30 to October 5 and a master-class with Baz Lurman. In addition to an opportunity to learn from the top professionals in the industry, the winners will be able to use and keep the latest Samsung devices, GALAXY Note 3 and Samsung GALAXY Gear.
